JobSeeker Cuts Detrimental to Corangamite Families

25 September 2020

Today will be a hard day for a large number of Corangamite families.

An estimated 11,180 Corangamite residents* will be $300 worse off a fortnight due to the Federal Governments cuts to the Coronavirus Supplement.

These changes come at the worst possible time for Victorians which was ground zero for the second wave of COVID-19 and the ensuing economic destruction.

Currently, there are 30 job seekers for every vacancy in regional Victoria.

Reducing this payment when the employment options are simply not available will hurt the most vulnerable in our community.

With 400,000 Australians expected to lose their job between now and December, now is not the right time to make cuts to the JobSeeker payment.

The Federal Government must release the Treasury modelling on the impact the JobSeeker cut will have on jobs and the economy.

Cutting JobSeeker is not a plan for jobs. Its time the Morrison Government provides Australians with a comprehensive plan for jobs and economic recovery.
