Corangamite fury at Morrison’s rapid testing snub
I’m concerned that people on low incomes in Corangamite and elsewhere are being priced-out of accessing Covid Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) when they need them, Libby Coker MP, Member
for Corangamite said tonight.
“RAT kits are in short supply thanks to the Prime Minister’s failure to prepare properly, yet again. And those kits which are available are being sold at inflated prices,” Ms Coker said.
“I invite the Liberal candidate for Corangamite to join with me in a bipartisan fashion, imploring Prime Minister Morrison to reverse his mean-hearted ill-considered decision not to provide free RAT kits,
especially for all those who need them and are unable to afford them.
“People across my electorate are furious that the government has switched to a new mixed testing regime but has failed to ensure RAT kits are both available and affordable.
“Prime Minister Morrison’s decision not to supply free kits again highlights his government’s disregard for people on lower incomes. He tells us that offering free kits would "undercut" business.
“This means many people are potentially going undiagnosed because they cannot afford the inflated costs of a rapid testing kit. That’s a disgrace.
“This is yet another example of a string of Morrison’s public policy failures during the pandemic.
“No person should be priced-out from accessing Covid testing. Kits should be freely available to everyone who needs them. Just as is happening in other countries, such as the United Kingdom,” Ms Coker
